Dorothea Tanning

Dorothea Tanning (1910-2012) - американская художница-сюрреалистка. Потомок эмигрантов из Швеции. В 1930 году уехала из родного Иллинойса в Чикаго, учиться живописи. Оттуда в Нью-Йорк, там занималась рекламой. В 1936 г., на выставке дадаизма была восхищена. В 1941 г. познакомилась с дельцом Леви (Julien Levy) и его компанией сюрреалистов, бежавших из нацистской Германии. В 1942 г. попала в группу Андре Бретона:

В 1943 г. сблизилась с Максом Эрнстом:

и вышла за него замуж (1946). В 1948 г. они переехали во Францию. В 1976 г. Макс умер, и Доротея Таннинг вернулась в Нью-Йорк (1978), где и жила до кончины.

Это одна из великих женщин XX века.
