Peter Maxwell Davies (1934-2016) - английский композитор, слава британской музыки. Возведён в рыцари (1987), был президентом Национальной федерации музыкальных обществ Великобритании, профессор композиции в Королевской академии музыки, почётный доктор Оксфордского университета и т. д.
Играл на пианино и сочинял музыку с детства. Окончил Манчестерский университет и Королевский манчестерский колледж (1956), где подружился с Харрисоном Бёртуистлом и Джоном Огдоном. Побывал в Риме и Австралии, жил на Оркнейских островах (архипелаг возле Шотландии). В 1967 г. Дэвис и Бёртуистл затеяли группу современной музыки Pierrot players / Fires of London.
Peter Maxwell был дирижёром лондонской Филармонии, Филармонического оркестра Би-Би-Си, Кливлендского оркестра, Бостонского симфонического оркестра, оркестра Лейпцигского Гевандхауса и др. знаменитых коллективов.

"Официальные биографии" часто вызывают недоумение - такой ... хорошего не напишет. Правда о Дэвисе не упоминается в перечне его наград - он считался "ужасным ребёнком 60-х" и шокировал музыкальную общественность. Кличка у Питера была "Макс", а его полистилистика уходила в экзотику.
